More great feats will be noted as they are received in the coming weeks.Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CTThe Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Criminology and Social Work at Eastern Connecticut State University inducted students into three honor societies this spring 2024 semester. The induction ceremonies included the Alpha Kappa Delta sociology honor society on May 2, the Phi Alpha social work honor society on May 9, and Eastern's inaugural induction of the Alpha Phi Sigma criminal justice honor society on April 30. Among those honored was senior Kalagena Sullivan of Ellington, who majors in social work. Sullivan was inducted into the Phi Alpha honor society for social work.The Department of Communication, Film, and Theatre at Eastern Connecticut State University held its annual honor society ceremony on April 18, 2024 in the Fine Arts Instructional Center. This year's ceremony included induction into the Lambda Pi Eta national communication honor society and Eastern's inaugural induction for the Alpha Psi Omega national theatre honor society. Among the inductees was junior Margaret Ritchie of Ellington, who majors in communication and was inducted into Lambda Pi Eta, the official communication honor society of the National Communication Association. As an accredited member of the Association of College Honor Societies, Lambda Pi Eta has 400 active chapters at colleges and universities worldwide.The Honors Program at Eastern Connecticut State University recognized 16 graduating seniors on May 11 for completing honors theses, the program's capstone requirement. Among the graduating honors scholars was Andrew Raymond of Ellington, who majors in history. Raymond's honors thesis is titled "English Perceptions of Louis XIV in the Late 17th Century: The Cynic Behind Popery and Arbitrary Power in France." Isabel Mund of Ellington, who majors in biology,copleted her honors thesis titled "The impact of white-tailed deer on understory plant and soil seed bank diversity in a New England successional forest."Southern New Hampshire University, Manchester NHLisa Classen of Ellington and Rhapsody Arlen of Somers were named to the winter 2024 President's List. The winter terms run from January to May. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above for the reporting term are named to the President's List. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits over each 16-week term or paired 8-week terms grouped in fall, winter/spring, and summer. Amanda Purnhagen and Cassandra Keilty, both of Ellington, were named to the winter 2024 Dean's List. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.500 to 3.699 for the reporting term are named to the Dean's List.Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MAWorcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has announced that Samantha Curtis of Ellington, Class of 2024, majoring in psychological science, was awarded the university's Salisbury Prize.A total of 21 undergraduate students - out of a class of more than 1,200 - were nominated by their departments to receive this award. The Salisbury Prize was instituted in 1871 by Stephen Salisbury, a 19th century businessman and philanthropist who was one of the founders of WPI. Salisbury, who also served as President of the Board of Trustees, established the award to recognize outstanding members of the senior class "who have faithfully, industriously, and with distinguished attainment" completed all course and project requirements for the bachelor's degree.Three local students recently completed their Major Qualifying Projects, which are usually team-based and often focus on very specific issues or needs of an organization that has partnered with the university to sponsor the student's work.
