The Frasier episode banned from early mornings on Channel 4

You’d think that, after airing daily in the UK for years, we’ve seen every single morsel of Frasier from the archives – but it turns out that one particular episode has been ‘banned’ on Channel 4.
The acclaimed sitcom, starring Kelsey Grammer in the titular role, first premiered in 1993 and has been a staple of the small screen ever since.
The original series, a spin-off of Cheers, ran for 11 seasons before ending in 2004, with a revival released at the end of last year.
It currently airs on weekday mornings in the UK, but fans have spotted that season 11 instalment High Holidays, is always skipped without notice.
In the episode in question, Niles (David Hyde Pierce) is upset that he didn’t rebel as a teenager and buys a weed brownie to make up for this.
However, his dad, Martin (John Mahoney) accidentally eats the treat himself before replacing it with a normal brownie – unwittingly getting stoned in the process.

Believing he’s high on drugs, but actually totally sober, Niles turns up at Frasier’s flat where he attempts to let loose and enjoy the ‘munchies’ – and the ‘sweet nectar of rebellion’
Instead, he meets a baffled Martin, who goes wild raiding the snack cupboard and inventing ‘fridge pants’.
Connecting the dots, it’s down to the radio psychiatrist to put an end to the shenanigans by getting his dad to bed, and telling his brother that he is most definitely not stoned.
Channel 4 has not shared the reason behind the ban, but it could be down to scenes depicting drug use.

The episode has gone down as a firm favorite with most fans, but some have voiced their confusion about why it doesn’t regularly air in the UK – but is able to stream on demand.
Taking to the program’s dedicated Reddit page, Eppinizer fumed: ‘I would have never imagined that Frasier of all shows would be censored.’
OK_Cranberry shared: ‘They never show the pot brownies one. Not seen that one for a long time.’
Stirccrazed suggested: ‘They don’t usually show High holidays – the one where Freddie is a goth. Probably not allowed with the drug references at that time in the morning.

‘But, they’ve got the whole series on All4 (or whatever they’re calling it now), so you could use that to fill in your gaps.’
‘I saw the episode this week for the first time. It did surprise me that I’d found a rare unwatched episode but now I wonder if it just wasn’t there and available before. Channel 4, U.K,’ DogTakeMeForAWalk added.
After 11 years and 37 Emmy wins, Frasier officially ended in May, 2004 – but Kelsey recently reprised his role at the end of last year for a divisive reboot.
Despite some negative reviews, the Simpsons icon confessed that he felt ‘vindicated’ when it was announced that the series had been picked up for a second season.

‘It feels great, it feels great,’ he recently told People Magazine of the news. ‘There was a sense of, I’m trying to think of the right word, vindication.
‘In my heart, I thought, “I know we can do this and I know we can do it really well.” And I didn’t want to do what some of the other shows had done, sort of come back and be the same show. I thought this all played exactly how it was meant to be.
‘And Frasier’s still alive, and he has a new story to tell and a new series of people to do it with, and it’s been fantastic.’
