Giovanni Mazza Teases Gio and Trina on GH
Gio may have had a relatively quiet introduction, but now that it’s summer, things are going to be heating up for General Hospital newcomer Giovanni Mazza! The young actor originally found fame playing his violin at NBA games but decided to pursue acting and moved to Los Angeles where he began auditioning. Mazza had previously gone out for roles on Days of Our Lives and GH, but it wasn’t until this year that the soap invited him to move to Port Charles!
“I put myself on tape, submitted it, and then I literally moved on,” Mazza confided to Soap Opera Digest. “Then I was on hold for another project at the time, this Amazon pilot, and I was thinking, ‘Okay, that’s probably the one I’m gonna get.’ Then I got a call that the [GH] producers wanted to see me. It felt like the Twilight Zone. It didn’t feel real.”
The performer was not only excited to ink a long-term contract with the soap, but also that they wanted to incorporate his violin playing into his character! Of course, Gio is going to have to find a way to balance his music practice with his new summer job at the Metro Court Pool. When news of Mazza’s casting was first announced, some viewers thought perhaps he was going to be a new love interest for Josslyn, but since Joss and Dex seem to be working things out, it’s actually Trina who he’ll be spending some time with.

“She is interested in who Gio is and wants to know more about him, just as he wants to know more about her, and I think we’ll develop a great connection on the show,” Mazza teased. “I feel like there’s so much that could happen and blossom out of our relationship, and I’m excited to know where the story goes. As a fan of the show, I also want to know what’s going to happen next!”
