Buckeye Bits: Ohio State set to host first official visit weekend
COLUMBUS — In a few short days from now, Ohio State like many other programs around the country, will put on its first major official visit weekend of the 2025 cycle.
As of publishing this, Lettermen Row has accounted for 16 official visitors ranging from commits and in-state targets to prospects all across the country.
Every Monday throughout the official visit calendar, Lettermen Row will run Buckeye Bits with an overarching preview of every visitor.
This weekend’s official visit starts May 31 and ends June 2.
Commits
Three-star Akron (Ohio) Archbishop Hoban linebacker Eli Lee will be on campus this weekend, but it is not his official visit. He shared with Lettermen Row in April that he will be on campus for every official visit weekend.
Four-star Port St. Lucie (Fla) Vero Beach linebacker Tarvos Alford will be on campus this weekend. Alford has official visits set for Florida State and Miami this summer as well, which were known about when he committed to Ohio State in March.
Four-star Wayne (N.J.) DePaul Catholic safety DeShawn Stewart announced a few weeks back on social media that this weekend would be his official visit to Ohio State. Stewart is the No. 183 overall prospect and committed to the Buckeyes in April.
Offensive Targets
Three-star Woodbridge (Va) Freedom running back Jeffrey Overton is still slated to make his official visit to Ohio State this weekend. Overton is the No. 42 running back per On3 and at least when Tony Alford was with the Buckeyes, was comfortable with a three-man class. That has changed now that Carlos Locklyn is running the room.
Four-star Cleveland (Ohio) Villa Angela-St. Joseph running back Bo Jackson is making a critical official visit this weekend. Jackson is one of the top priority targets the Buckeyes have on either side of the ball. He’s the No. 68 overall prospect according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
Four-star Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy wide receiver Daylan McCutcheon returns to campus for the first time since the spring. The rising senior is the No. 98 overall prospect according to On3.
Four-star Red Oaks (Texas) wide receiver Taz Williams Jr., as of now, is still expected to visit Ohio State this weekend. The dialogue between the Buckeyes and Williams has cooled off some.
Five-star Plus+ Duncanville (Texas) wide receiver Dakorien Moore opens up his summer visit tour with Ohio State. The former LSU commit will make official visits to Texas and Oregon this summer after Ohio State. Moore is the No. 1 wide receiver in the On3 Industry Rankings and by On3.
Four-star Fort Myers (Fla) First Baptist Academy wide receiver Winston Watkins Jr. has suddenly popped back up on the Buckeyes’ radar and will make his official visit this weekend. Watkins is the No. 175 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings.
Four-star Orlando (Fla) Jones wide receiver Vernell Brown III returns to campus this weekend for the first time since the student appreciation day practice at the end of March. This is a very critical visit for Ohio State as Brown is reportedly trending toward staying in-state.
Four-star Fort Worth (Texas) North Crowley interior offensive lineman Henry Fenuku returns to Ohio State after visiting only a few weeks ago. On3’s Steve Wiltfong placed a prediction into the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine on the Buckeyes to land Fenuku following that earlier May visit.
Three-star Bradenton (Fla) IMG Academy interior offensive lineman Kaden Strayhorn rounds out the offensive visitors Lettermen Row knows heading to campus this weekend. Strayhorn is a heavy Michigan State lean and a native of Novi, Michigan.
Defensive Targets
Four-star Cincinnati (Ohio) Winton Woods EDGE Justin Hill is arguably the most important defensive visitor heading to campus this weekend. Hill is the No. 52 overall prospect per On3 and the Buckeyes are battling against Alabama, Oregon and USC to make sure their guy stays in state.
Four-star McKinney (Texas) linebacker Riley Pettijohn kicks off his official visit tour with a stop in Columbus. The No. 42 overall prospect per On3 has stops at USC, Texas and Texas A&M after Ohio State.
