Take a look inside a terrifying ‘house of horrors’ that’s up for sale for £495k with scary statues & gravestones

FROM a close-up look, the white Tudor style cottage on the market for £495,000 looks inviting and cosy.
However, a quick look around the property tells a different story that has terrified house-hunters.

The detached home gets more and more eerie whenever you turn a corner, from the creepy gravestones outside to the ‘horrifying’ figures in the living room.
The property is located in Ashton-In-Makerfield, Greater Manchester, and was previously the home and garden centre of outsider artist Kevin Duffy.
An outsider artist is a name given to those who make art and are self-taught, and who have no contact with the conventional art world.
And this property certainly shows off Kevin’s unusual artistry.
Potential buyers are greeted with a white and black cottage and a lawn made from mismatched grass.
Sculptures litter the lawn with a human-sized angel singing and what looks like a small boy at the front of the cottage.
A path making its way to the back of the garden centre welcomes you with two gravestones on either side of the door.
And while the outside has a distinct eerie feel, indoors is no better.
One small room is adorned with multiple grandfather clocks and smaller clocks covering the walls.
Moving into the living room, there are more grandfather clocks as well as a creepy life-sized maid figure, a glass german shepherd and numerous gnome milk jugs.

Former owner Mr Duffy poses the question on the Rectory Nurseries garden centre website: “Is it art or a pile of junk?”
The property listing agent, Regan & Hallworth, boasts a plot of land close to 0.5 acres in size and two separate dwellings, each with its own lounge, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom.
It reads: “This property embodies 40 years of Duffy’s passionate vision, showcased on television and celebrated by Raw Vision, the world’s leading outsider art magazine.”
But people on Reddit had a different outlook on the property, with many claiming it looked horrifying to live in.

Home upgrades that add the most value to a house

The best renovation to add value totally depends on your property, the local market and your potential buyers.

Zoopla shared a list of upgrades that will instantly add value to your home.

Loft conversion – increase of 15%
Off-street parking – adds £50,000 to property price
New kitchen – increase of 15%
Garage conversion – increase of 15%
Cellar or basement conversion – increase of 10-15%
Open plan living space – increase of 3-5%
New bathroom – increase of 3-5%

One person wrote: “Looks like the perfect setting for a seance.”
Another commented: “I went through the photos thinking “what is it?”
“Finding out it’s an old garden centre owned by an artist doesn’t explain it all.”
“Absolute fever-dream!” penned a third.
Meanwhile, a fourth said: “My last thought was that this is more like a cheap house of horrors set up at Halloween to upset little kids. I’m not surprised that it’s gone out of business, if the photos are any indication.”
“That place is terrifying!” claimed a fifth.
