After Shooting Threat Reports, Yucaipa High School Deems Campus Safe
YUCAIPA, CA — Yucaipa High School has canceled a campus rally and will have an increased police presence on Friday after officials received multiple reports and screenshots from social media of a shooting threat.The school remains in session today, and campus officials say there is currently no threat to the school or students, according to a letter sent to Thunderbird Bird students, staff and families on Friday morning. According to school spokesperson Lance Bradley, the campus immediately began investigating the tip with the support of law enforcement. While officials say there is no threat to campus members, Bradley said the school was anticipating lower attendance on Friday. No other details of the threat itself were immediately available. "...we recognize that these threats can raise your children's anxiety regarding school safety," campus officials wrote in their letter, adding that parents should review a short guide from Mental Health America on discussing school safety at home. "We encourage you to speak with your children about this to help us reinforce what they are learning at school," the letter read. Students, staff and family are also encouraged to download the STOPit app.Anyone who may know of something that could be interpreted as a threat to someone’s safety was urged to call the campus at 909-797-0106.
