Does Kate Middleton’s portrait look like an image of ‘strength and courage’?

A new portrait of Kate Middleton has riled up some fans of the British monarchy, with it being described as “horrible”, “laughable”, “awful” and “chaotic”.
The portrait was painted by British-Zambian artist Hannah Uzor, and appeared as the cover of the July issue of Tatler magazine.
According to the artist herself, all her portraits are “made up of layers of a personality, constructed from everything I can find about them.”In a video posted to Tatler’s Instagram, Uzor said “I spent a lot of time looking at her, looking at her pictures, watching videos of her, seeing her with her family, seeing her in diplomatic visits, seeing her when she’s rowing or visiting children in hospice.”
“It’s been really interesting for me to get a sense of who she is.”
“Colour is one of the most important things in a work of art, because it can really speak to the atmosphere,” Uzor said of the painting which was based on photographs and videos rather an in-person sitting, adding that the “bluey, turquoise” background was a reference to Middleton’s green eyes.
On her website, Uzor’s practice is described as one which is “driven by her interest in history, particularly, diasporic culture and its manifestation in personal and public memory.”“The act of researching, observation and the physical manifestations of these processes are equally as important as the research material that is discovered. Each body of work is centred on a particular research focus thus draws from a variety of references including archival images, historical paintings, family photographs and literature.”
But many critics and fans of the royal family are not happy with the painting of the Princess of Wales — especially when Tatler magazine described the image as a portrait of “strength, dignity and courage.”
“Disappointing portrait … our POW is far more beautiful ..,” one user wrote.“A very poor portrait which totally fails to represent the beauty and elegance of the Princess of Wales,” another wrote.
“What a horrible portrait for a beautiful Woman,” came from one user, while another said, “This does not look like the PoW at all. I thought it was a joke at first.”

Other commenters described the painting as “a middle school artist masterpiece”, “flat” and “the kind of work I buy at the thrift shop.”
Others had pleasant feelings towards the portrait, with one user commenting: “Nice painting, but unfortunately, it hasn’t managed to [capture] her immense beauty and grace.”
Another said, “I appreciate what the artist was trying to do but no I would have no idea who it was supposed to be only for what she is wearing.”
Others had conspiracy theories of their own, including that Meghan Markle had commissioned the portraits, or that the artist was “intentionally f**king with the royal family with this portrait.”
The latest portrait comes just a week after another royal painting was criticised. British artist Jonathan Yeo faced severe criticism for his artistic portrayal of King Charles III, which was described by one journalist as a “superficially observed and carelessly executed bland banality.”
