Sacramento State transfer safety Cameron Broussard commits to Washington
The Washington Huskies just landed a big-time defensive secondary veteran out of the transfer portal. Former Sacramento State safety Cameron Broussard has announced that he will be playing for the Huskies and head coach Jedd Fisch in 2024.
Broussard joined the Hornets in 2020 but did not get to play for them until 2021, as the program canceled its 2020 season due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Since then, he has been a significant contributor to Sacramento State’s defense. In 2021, he played in 10 games at safety, recording 28 total tackles, 16 solo, and forced two fumbles.
In 2022, Broussard would become a starter for Sacramento State, starting in 10 of the 13 games he played in while recording 68 total tackles, 41 solos, with seven passes defended and two interceptions. Last season, in 2023, he would put up similar numbers with 73 total tackles, 32 solo, and seven passes defended, along with two interceptions for the 2nd consecutive season despite playing in just eleven games after suffering an injury towards the end of the year.
Broussard played his high school football at Folsom High School in Folsom, CA. The now six-foot-three safety earned a three-star ranking and a rating of 82 coming out of high school. He did not have a national ranking but was No. 137 as an athlete recruit and No. 173 of the players in the 2020 class from the state of California.
Fisch building Washington’s depth through the transfer portal
Fisch has been burning the midnight oil to fill his roster at Washington after filling the vacancy left by Kalen DeBoer, who led the Huskies to a birth in the national championship game. Fisch left his position as the head coach of the Arizona Wildcats, but he hasn’t made the move alone. The former Arizona headman has brought a handful of players in since accepting the position, including recently adding two former Wildcats in running back Jordan Washington and wide receiver Kevin Green.
At the time of their commitment, Green and Washington were the 22nd and 23rd players to join the Huskies this offseason through the transfer portal, along with the 11th and 12th players from Arizona who opted to join their former Arizona head coach in Seattle.
