Hina Khan Diagnosed With Breast Cancer: Signs And Symptoms To Watch Out For
Famous TV actress Hina Khan has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer. The 36-year-old actor took to Instagram to break the news, requested privacy and assured fans that she would overcome this challenge with her family by her side. Hina Khan's Instagram statement on her breast cancer diagnosis read: "Hello Everyone, To address the recent rumour, I want to share some important news with all the Hinaholics and everyone who loves and cares for me. I have been diagnosed with Stage Three Breast Cancer. Despite this challenging diagnosis, I want to reassure everyone that I am doing well. I am strong, determined, and fully committed to overcoming this disease. My treatment has already begun, and I am ready to do everything necessary to emerge from this even stronger."Breast cancer in females is the leading cause of cancer incidence and mortality in India and accounts for 13.5 per cent of new cancer cases and 10 per cent of cancer-related deaths. In 2022, there were 2.3 million women diagnosed with breast cancer and 670,000 deaths globally. Breast cancer occurs in every country of the world in women at any age after puberty but with increasing rates in later life. But what are the signs and symptoms to watch out for?We got in touch with Dr Ramesh Sarin, Senior Consultant, Surgical Oncologist, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, who shares that breasts can present with a variety of signs and symptoms, some of which may be more noticeable than others.New Lump in the Breast: The most common symptom is the presence of a lump or mass in the breast, which is often hard and painless, although it can sometimes be tender or soft.Changes In Size Or Shape Of Breast: Changes in the shape or size of the breast can also be indicative of breast cancer. Thickening Of Skin: Unusual thickening of the skin or dimpling that resembles an orange peel can be a warning sign. Changes In Skin: Skin changes, such as redness, swelling, or a scaly texture, should not be ignored as signs of vast disease. Nipple Retraction or Pain: Nipple changes, including retraction (where the nipple becomes inverted or pulls inward), unusual discharge (which may be clear, bloody, or another colour, and not related to breastfeeding), or persistent pain in the nipple area, can also be symptoms of breast cancer.Swollen Lymph Nodes: Swelling of all or part of the breast, even if no distinct lump is felt, can be a symptom of breast cancer, as well as swelling or lumps in the lymph nodes under the arm or around the collarbone, indicating that the cancer may have spread. Redness or Flaky Skin: Red, scaly, or flaky skin in the nipple area or breast can be a symptom of breast cancer. Persistent changes should be evaluated by a healthcare provider.Nipple Discharge: Discharge from the nipple, other than breast milk, can be alarming. A discharge that is bloody or clear could be associated with breast cancer and requires medical evaluation.
