Davante Adams trade rumors: Adam Schefter names two teams likely to land Raiders WR
A week ago today it was reported that Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams requested a trade from the franchise. That news has since been followed by more reports, rumors, and speculation about which team would be the one to get the deal done and add the All-Pro wideout to their team.
NFL insider Adam Schefter joined The Pat McAfee Show on Monday and discussed Adams’ current situation. Revealing that he believes there are two teams that have the best chances of landing Adams in comparison to the rest of the league.

“In the end, ultimately, I still think Davante wants to go play for the Jets or the Saints,” Schefter said. “And I think ultimately in the end, the Raiders figure out a way to work it out with the Jets or the Saints. It’s been those two teams, I think it will consistently be those two teams.”
On Friday, Adams posted a photo of poet Edgar Allan Poe on his Instagram story. A post that many believed was a cryptic message that he’d be traded to the Baltimore Ravens because of Poe’s most notable poem, The Raven. A team that Schefter is not fully ruling out amongst others, but still gives the upper hand to the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints.

“That doesn’t preclude a team like the Bills, or the Steelers, or the Ravens from monitoring the situation just to see what else could happen,” Schefter said. “But you’re going to need Davante Adams’ cooperation if you’re trading a second-round pick to that team to restructure his contract. He’s going to want to have to be willing.”
Schefter explained the significance of Adams’ current contract in which team he winds up being traded to. Having two years remaining on his current deal with Las Vegas and serving as a $13.526 million cap hit for whichever team trades for him, which drops $968,000 each week that he remains on the Raiders.
“So even though he doesn’t have a no trade (clause), he does have influence in this particular situation in the form of restructuring his contract for next year and beyond. Because he’s due like $36.25 million next year, non guaranteed. There’s not going to be a team out there next year that wants to pay Davante Adams $36.25 million non guaranteed and carry him on that roster,” Schefter explained. “So either you have to redo it with his help and cooperation, or you have to move on from him.”
“So if you give up, let’s just call it, a second-round pick, because the Raiders have been adamant that they get a two. You’re going to want some kind of assurance from Davante that he’s going to be there beyond this year, and he’s certainly going to be more apt to give that to an organization that he wants to be playing for and a quarterback that he knows well. And the two quarterbacks he knows well and wants to play with most of all are Aaron Rodgers and Derek Carr.”
Adams caught passes from Rodgers for the first eight seasons of his career for the Green Bay Packers before being traded to the Raiders in 2022 to reunite with his college teammate Derek Carr. Both quarterbacks that he’s familiar with but now play for two different teams.
According to Schefter, it sounds like a reunion is likely in Adams’ future. It will be fascinating to see if the Jets or Saints can make it happen or if another team potentially swoops in to sign the wideout who’s notched 1,000 yards in five of his last six seasons in the league.
