A LUCKY lotto player has won a $50,000 jackpot thanks to his love for cars.
The man, who has remained anonymous, used the numbers from his Tesla‘s license plate to play the Maryland Lottery’s Pick 5 game.

He owns three cars and often uses their plate numbers as inspiration for his lottery numbers.
Last week, the man chose the numbers 56843 for a $1 bet in the midday and evening Pick 5 drawings.
He went to Liquor Barn in Taneytown – about 47 miles north of Baltimore – to buy the ticket.
After the midday drawing, the man realized that he had won the $50,000 prize and celebrated.
He plans on retiring in July and intends to use the money to pay off his bills.
For the future, the man wants to focus on his hobbies, which include several home and garden projects.
Liquor Barn, where the man frequently bought lottery tickets, will receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
DON’T TELL THEM
Maryland is one of only 11 states that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.
Other states include Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Texas.
It is mandatory for lotto winners to claim the jackpot in order to receive their winnings, however, most states require them to do it publicly.
States such as California forbid winners to remain anonymous.
If you decide to play in your state’s lottery, it is important to read the guidelines and regulations regarding prizes.
For those who win to remain anonymous, many experts advise not telling anyone about the jackpot and avoiding changing much of your lifestyle.
Deleting social media accounts, changing phone numbers, and addresses can also help winners remain anonymous.
Experts also advice setting up an LLC or trust to make large purchases and getting a lawyer and financial advisor to manage funds.
Some players even wear disguises when claiming their winnings, however, this depends on the state you live in.
Lottery winnings: lump sum or annuity?
Players who win big on lottery tickets typically have a choice to make: lump sum or annuity?
The two payout methods can impact how much money you get from your prize.
Annuities pay out slowly in increments, often over 30 years.
Lump sums pay all at once but in a smaller amount, as taxes are withheld in one go. That means 24% of your prize goes to Uncle Sam right away. Many states tax winnings as well.
Annuities can provide winners time to set up the financial infrastructure required to take in a life-changing amount of money, but lump sums have the benefit of being taxed only once.
Inflation is also worth considering when making a choice, as payouts do not adjust with the value of a dollar. That means that you’ll likely be getting less valuable money towards the end of an annuity.
Each state and game pays out prizes differently, so it’s best to check with your state’s lottery to confirm payment policies. A financial advisor can also help you weigh the pros and cons of each option.
Experts have varying opinions on whether to take the lump sum or take the annuity.
According to Lottery USA, the odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are one in 302.6 million and the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are one in 292.2 million.
Lottery players are more likely to become president or a Hollywood celebrity, getting killed by a bee, or having conjoined twins than winning a major jackpot.
Meanwhile, a fortunate lottery player won $300,000 at a gas station after feeling lucky.
Also, an unknown winner is being warned to come forward after snagging a nearly $215 million jackpot.
