Quarterback intel from Notre Dame’s Irish Invasion camp
Quarterbacks wear red jerseys during Notre Dame’s practices, and they did so as well at the staff’s Irish Invasion camp Sunday afternoon. Well, except for two signal-callers.
Noah Grubbs and Deuce Knight — who are Notre Dame’s quarterback commits in the 2026 and 2025 classes, respectively — rocked green jerseys and their high school number. Grubbs wore No. 13, while Knight, as you’d expect with his first name, had the No. 2.
The defensive back group Sunday was — in my opinion — the top position group at the camp, and when you mix that with the fact that the quarterbacks were throwing to receivers who they had (for the most part) met for the first time that day, it can be difficult to have a lot of success in one-on-ones.
But despite this, both Grubbs and Knight had solid days in the competitive settings. They missed some throws here and there and weren’t on the same page with their receivers at times, but they both flashed their outstanding potential.
Grubbs puts some serious power behind his throws. He didn’t participate in the testing portion, but we saw him the rest of the camp, and Grubbs looked good. He moves well in the pocket, has a quick release and is comfortable throwing on the run.
Knight went through testing and boy did he impress. He ran a 4.5 40-yard dash and recorded a 10’8” broad jump, which is better than what any other quarterback recorded in the 2024 NFL Combine in both drills. Knight has been working on his quarterback craft this offseason, and I thought he showed a very clean, repeatable throwing motion.
You can't really see @DeuceKnight behind the wall of other players, but this is him launching a ball downfield in 1v1s to his close friend and fellow ND commit @elijahburress. One of the best DBs at the camp was in coverage there, too.https://t.co/gJCD6LzI4V pic.twitter.com/1xA0wkXI9z— Mike Singer (@MikeTSinger) June 3, 2024
It was really neat to see how much time Grubbs and Knight spent together. Shortly after Grubbs arrived, Knight went out of his way to go speak with Grubbs’ parents and chatted with them, which was awesome. Knight is a tremendous young man.
The two Irish commits threw together in the first part of the individual drills (see the tweet below) and seemed to be building their camaraderie. At this point, I couldn’t fathom still thinking Knight is anything but super locked in with his Notre Dame commitment, but I’m sure those people still exist.
There were a couple dozen other quarterbacks in attendance. It wasn’t the strongest group at the position that I’ve seen at this camp before (the 2022 camp was the best I’ve been to), but there were a few other standouts. And in full transparency, this is also from the opinion of a source on the Irish side of things.

Mundelein (Ill.) Carmel Catholic’s Trae Taylor had a strong day and is already considered one of the best signal-callers in the 2027 class. He impressed on Sunday, and I particularly liked how he threw on the run. Like most quarterbacks going into their sophomore year, he has some mechanical things to work on — he has a bit of a wind-up in his motion. But he puts zip on the ball.
Coconut Creek (Fla.) Monarch’s Jack Spaeder only holds offers from Akron and Georgia State currently, but his stock is on the rise after a strong Irish Invasion performance. He was one of the better deep ball throwers Sunday. It’s early for him as a 2027 prospect, but Spaeder is someone I expect to become a household name in the coming year.
I really liked West Roxbury (Mass.) Catholic Memorial 2027 quarterback Peter Bourque, and Notre Dame sources did as well. He has a quick release and was accurate throughout the day. Toledo, Maryland and Rhode Island are the schools that have offered him thus far. Bourque has the attention of the Irish staff.
