Her Sister-In-Law Gave Her A Wedding Dress As A Gift, And She Refused To Wear It, So Her In-Laws And Fiancé Made Her Cry
While it can be nice to gift a bride-to-be something before her wedding and expect her to use it on a certain day, there are things you shouldn’t force upon a bride.
One of those very sacred things is her wedding dress.
One woman is in trouble with her fiancé and his family after she turned down her sister-in-law’s wedding “gift,” which was her old wedding dress that she wanted her to wear.
She is 27 and has been with her 31-year-old fiancé Jacob for six years. They’ve been engaged for about a year and have excitedly started wedding planning.
Ever since she was a little girl, she had dreams of wearing her mom’s wedding dress down the aisle, especially because it was a dress passed down through several generations of her family.
The moment she got engaged, she was settled on wearing her mom’s heirloom wedding dress.
However, little did she know one of her future family members had a totally different idea about what she should wear down the aisle.
Recently, she and her fiancé attended a dinner held by his family, and her future sister-in-law was there.
Suddenly, her sister-in-law stood up in the middle of dinner and tapped on her glass to propose a toast. During her toast, her sister-in-law said she had to grab something and eventually returned with a large plastic bag.

“Everyone seemed to be excited, but I just felt confused,” she recalled.
“I awkwardly smiled as I asked my sister-in-law what was inside the bag, and she opened it to reveal her wedding dress from two years ago.”
Everyone at the table began clapping, and her sister-in-law said the dress was her wedding gift to her and that she’d like her to wear it on her wedding day.
She immediately felt uncomfortable, as she was 100% certain she wanted to wear her mom’s dress and knew she’d have to turn down her sister-in-law’s gift.
Her discomfort became too difficult to hide, and her fiancé’s family began asking her what was wrong.
“I tried to explain I wanted to wear my mother’s dress and that it was nothing personal, but I refused to wear my sister-in-law’s dress,” she said.
“My sister-in-law began crying as my in-laws began tearing into me and comforting her. I just burst into tears and ran outside. My fiancé didn’t even come after me.”
Unfortunately, instead of sticking up for her and comforting her, her fiancé was angry with her and accused her of “embarrassing” him in front of his family members.
Then, to make matters worse, her fiancé snapped and called her mean names, saying he couldn’t believe he chose to marry her. He also said his sister’s dress was much better looking than her mom’s, which he compared to an “old rag.”
“I tried to tell him how much my mother’s wedding dress meant to me because I promised her I would wear it,” she added.
“I felt like my fiancé’s family planned this and put me on the spot.”
At first, she felt like she didn’t do anything wrong by turning down the dress, but her fiancé’s family is making her think otherwise.
Did she do anything wrong, or were her fiancé and sister-in-law’s reactions ridiculous?
