Remember that narrative about how the Lakers hadn’t already hired JJ Redick because the NBA and league partners didn’t want anything pulling focus from the Finals? Man, I’m glad we dodged that bullet!!! AK – 3:42 PM

Dan Hurley will stay at UConn, turns down big-money offer to coach Lakers
This brings the Lakers back to the Redick/Borrego/someone else question. Don’t expect a quick answer to that.

I completely understand the pursuit of Dan Hurley. Now that he’s gone, if I’m the Lakers, I’m pivoting to James Borrego over JJ Redick. – 1:54 PM

Now comes the awkward dance for the Lakers of obtaining JJ Redick as their next head coach following the failed pursuit of Dan Hurley.

More on this storyline
J.J. Redick’s name has been attached to the Lakers job since Ham’s firing. Redick has been disciplined in not directly discussing the Lakers’ job in numerous media appearances in recent weeks even as rumors swirled around him. But his contact with the team had been minimal, sources said, leading up to the Lakers aggressive pursuit of Hurley. -via ESPN / June 10, 2024

The Dallas Mavericks were defeated 107-89 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals by the Boston Celtics. Although it is not time to panic, Dallas needs to make some adjustments. JJ Redick, who knows the game of basketball well and is even a current head coaching candidate for the Los Angeles Lakers, revealed an adjustment he believes the Mavs need to make for Game 2, via his YouTube channel. -via Clutch Points / June 7, 2024
Hurley has been at the forefront of the Lakers’ search from the beginning of the process, even while the organization has done its due diligence interviewing several other candidates, sources said. Only New Orleans assistant James Borrego had two in-person interviews in Los Angeles, sources said. Pelinka and Buss formally discussed with Hurley their vision of marrying his dominant program — built upon both his tactical acumen and elite player development — with the storied Lakers’ brand. -via ESPN / June 9, 2024
It has been suggested in some corners of the league that Lakers star big man Anthony Davis probably prefers for James Borrego to get the job over Redick. -via marcstein.substack.com / June 5, 2024
