Venom: The Last Dance waltzes to No. 1
Meanwhile, "Conclave" goes by the grace of God to No. 3.

Marvel had one last gasp at this year's box office with the threequel Venom: The Last Dance scoring $51 million at the domestic box office, per Comscore.
That pales in comparison to Deadpool & Wolverine's $205 million, but worldwide, The Last Dance pulled a bit more of its weight. Internationally, the Tom Hardy-led flick earned $124 million for a pretty good global debut of $175 million.

Directed by Kelly Marcel, this final installment in the Venom trilogy finds Eddie Brock (Hardy) and his Symbiote pal Venom on the run, hunted by both of their worlds, forcing them to make a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on their last dance. Though this is the end of the road for Hardy as Eddie/Venom, there's still more story to tell.
"Tommy and I wanted to finish our three movies, and we wanted to lay ground [for more]," Marcel told Entertainment Weekly. "There are other Easter eggs throughout the movie that lay ground for anywhere that you would want to go whilst also concluding our trilogy. But the idea of even thinking about anything other than the press tour and then a really nice sleep hasn't entered my brain yet. That might be a question for a few months down the line after a vacation... We're introducing a massive character in this universe that will have their own life beyond, but this is very much the end of this trilogy with no connection [to the Marvel Cinematic Universe]."

A film geared towards adults that's neither a superhero movie or a franchise offering, Conclave earned strong reviews and a decent box office with its $6.5 million opening. Based on the 2016 Robert Harris novel of the same name, Conclave follows Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) as he's tasked with running the covert process of selecting the next Pope after the unexpected death of the current one. Once the Catholic Church's most powerful leaders have gathered from around the world and are locked together in the Vatican halls, Lawrence finds himself at the center of a conspiracy and discovers a secret that could shake the very foundation of The Church.
