Fox River Grove Teen Charged In DUI Crash That Killed Siblings: Police
MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — An 18-year-old Fox River Grove man is accused of having a blood alcohol concentration more than four times the legal limit when he caused a crash in McHenry early Monday that claimed the lives of two teenage siblings, authorities said Tuesday. On Tuesday, McHenry County Circuit Court Judge Cynthia Lamb ordered Jason Land remain detained while he awaits trial on charges of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol - causing death, driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash. Land is accused of driving while drunk and causing a crash on Richmond Road at McCullom Lake Road at about 12:30 a.m. on Monday. Authorities say Land was driving a 2006 Audi A4 south on Richmond Road when he ran a red light and collided with a 2015 Nissan Sentra.Two people in the Nissan, a 19-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy, were pronounced dead at the scene. According to media reports, the woman and boy were siblings. Land was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Police were advised his blood alcohol concentration was .350, which is more than four times the legal limit in Illinois of .08. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
