Comedian Matt Rife Postpones Tour Dates Due to Severe Exhaustion, Nashville, Chicago Shows Affected
Comedian Matt Rife has put a halt to his comedy tour, canceling multiple dates due to severe exhaustion. Rife, who experienced intense fatigue symptoms on the way to a gig in Indiana, has been advised by his doctors to take an immediate two-week break from his rigorous schedule.
Fans were left in the lurch when Rife, 28, abruptly pulled out of his performances at the last minute, including a run at Indiana University and upcoming shows at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium and The Chicago Theatre. According to a statement on the Ryman Auditorium's Facebook page, the Nashville shows set for June 6 through 9 are canceled with refunds being processed within 30 days, FOX 17 reported. The Chicago Theater shows have been pushed to December, while new dates for Nashville are still to be determined.
The sudden cancellation comes after a strenuous period of touring for Rife, who mentioned on social media his regret over the situation. "I’ve been doing 40+ shows a month for a year and half and never had to do something like this," Rife said in a statement obtained by People. He extended his apologies to his supporters, expressing love and hoping for their understanding as he navigates through his health crisis.
Ticketholders affected by the cancellations have been reassured of refunds if they are unable to attend rescheduled performances. This development is a setback for a comedian who, according to TMZ, would have broken the record for consecutive sold-out shows at the Chicago Theatre. The ProbleMATTic tour is an extensive itinerary that includes stops across North America, and Europe, and a special performance in Abu Dhabi. Following the advised rest period, Rife plans to resume his tour on June 12 in Memphis.
Rife, no stranger to the limelight, has garnered attention with his stand-up specials and an acting portfolio which includes a guest appearance on popular TV shows like "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Fresh Off the Boat". With a newfound development deal for a gym/workplace comedy series and a two-special deal with Netflix, Rife's career seemed on an unstoppable trajectory before this health-related pause.
