“We Had a False Start”: Noah Lyles Addresses Overcoming Abrupt Incident at US Olympic Track and Field Trials 2024
A fumble as the very first step of your Olympic journey is never a thing that any athlete would want. And yet, for Oregon’s very own Cravon Gillespie, that’s exactly what transpired at the US Track and Field Olympic team trials. Owing to a false start, Gillespie was deemed DQ’d of the men’s 100m heat, but Noah Lyles seemed to have covered such scenarios beforehand.
The official USATF website shared the final standings of the men who have qualified for tomorrow’s 100m semis, and at the bottom of the table lies Cravon in Heat 1. After winning the same race, Noah was heard talking about how he prepared ahead not to make the same mistake as his colleague.
“We had a false start there, it’s funny,” chuckled Noah in a post-race interview as he noted how his coaches advised him to stay calm in case of a mistake ahead of the race. “Reset, walk slow, don’t worry about anything (Noah was told), and that’s what I did,” Noah was heard saying.
