Clarke University names Fletcher Lamkin as new president
Clarke University has named Fletcher Lamkin as its new president. (Photo courtesy of Clarke University) Clarke University has named Fletcher Lamkin as its 17th president after approval from the college’s Board of Trustees, the university announced.
Lamkin has served in the role on an interim basis since January 2023 after former president Thom Chesney departed after holding the position for three years. Chesney began his new role as president of Southwestern College in New Mexico on July 29.

The new president’s tenure as interim president was scheduled to last 18 months, according to a previous news release announcing his placement in the role, or until the search for a president was complete and they could take on the position.

“Clarke’s rich history and inspirational mission, vision, and values make it a special and unique resource for the region and the State of Iowa,” Lamkin said in a news release. “As President, I believe we can realize success by collaboratively leading Clarke’s extraordinary people and provide a strong foundation of student success, financial wellness, and stable enrollments.”
According to the release, while in his interim role Lamkin was involved in creating Clarke University’s 2023-2026 strategic plan and a new capital campaign. He has previously served as president of Westminster College in Missouri, West Virginia University and Kansas Wesleyan University.
“With over 40 years of academic experience in various institutions, Fletch has a unique approach to leadership and service. We are confident that he will continue to promote progress for the university,” Board of Trustees Chair Carolyn Haupert said in the release.
