Suspected of Assault and Criminal Mischief, Florida Man Crashes Car into Martin County Jail
In a bizarre turn of events, a Florida man, identified as 40-year-old Joseph Leedy, drove his car into the Martin County Jail's lobby late Monday night. According to NBC Miami, Leedy, who was reportedly not wearing pants, crashed through the entrance with a Toyota sedan. The surveillance footage showed the impact and the subsequent chaos.
Upon exiting his vehicle, Leedy, clad only in a woman's blouse, spilled motor oil on the floor and was said to be attempting to start a fire. As if the scene wasn't chaotic enough, he then proceeded to make threats towards law enforcement and declared a desire to "kill everyone," throwing rubber snakes across the floor. Chief Deputy John Budensiek disclosed that Leedy made "homicidal statements" and expressed his "disdain for President Donald Trump," in a statement obtained by NBC Miami.
Leedy fought against deputies and fire rescue before being subdued by a Taser and restrained. He was given "multiple doses of ketamine" which, according to Budensiek, did not sedate him, suggesting a possible tolerance to drugs. Later, Leedy was taken to a hospital and is now facing charges, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and criminal mischief as reported by NBC Miami.
After this incident, the Martin County Sheriff's Office is considering the installation of additional protections for the jail. No one was reportedly in the lobby during the crash, but the impact caused significant property damage.
