Sheila Quinn To Challenge State Rep. Tracy Marra In 141st District
NORWALK, CT — Darien Democrat Sheila Quinn will challenge Republican state Rep. Tracy Marra for the 141st House District seat. The district covers most of Darien and Rowayton.Quinn, the secretary for the Darien Democratic Committee, was nominated by Darien and Norwalk delegates on May 14."I am honored to receive such overwhelming support from my Democratic colleagues and from so many who have encouraged me to run," Quinn said in a news release. "I am incredibly grateful to have earned their trust and support as the endorsed candidate for the 141st district representing portions of Darien and Norwalk. I look forward to the party’s continued support as we move forward to November’s election and work to elect a Democrat who can partner with House leadership to get things done and achieve meaningful progress for the people in our communities."The 141st House District has traditionally been a Republican stronghold. Marra ran unopposed in 2022; she replaced longtime Rep. Terrie Wood.Quinn noted that her campaign is focused on "everyday issues," including improving the state's economy, investing in education, addressing the mental health crisis and bringing CT's infrastructure into the 21st century."Our issues are the issues of everyday people. With the help of everyone here tonight and throughout our towns, I believe we can win this seat. We’ve seen it happen before in the communities around us. Now we have the chance to make it happen here in our community,” Quinn said. "I have the support of our neighboring state representatives and senators and of (Lt. Gov.) Susan Bysiewicz and (Congressman) Jim Himes, who have pledged their full support for my campaign."Quinn is a graduate of New York University where she received a bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She and her partner, Filippo Pistone, opened their own business, Bacchanal Wine Imports, with more than 500 clients throughout Connecticut. Quinn lives in Darien with her two daughters, one who recently graduated and another entering high school.Marra announced her re-election bid last month. In her announcement, Marra shared several of her priorities, which include, "Championing local voices in the legislative process; creating an environment that encourages businesses to choose Connecticut as a home and help to grow and contribute to its economy; advocating for local decision making in housing and education to ensure that our children and neighbors live in communities that reflect our district's needs; and stopping government overreach that hurts our state and community."According to her profile on the CT House GOP website, Marra was appointed to serve on the legislature's education, public health and transportation committees for the 2023-2024 legislative session. The article Sheila Quinn To Challenge State Rep.
