'The Hunger Games: On Stage' Officially Casts Its Katniss Everdeen
We're still a few short months away from the theatrical debut of The Hunger Games: On Stage, but as one can easily expect, anticipations continue to mount for the first ever theatrical production of Suzanne Collins' best-selling novel.More recently, however, the creative minds behind the brand-new, London-based stage show have released key details about the upcoming play, including who exactly will take over the role of Collins' famed protagonist, Katniss Everdeen.In a recent Instagram post made on the show's social media page, The Hunger Games: On Stage confirmed that 20-year-old Mia Carragher will assume the role of District 12's fearless Tribute, portraying a character famously played by Jennifer Lawrence in the original films. “Meet our girl on fire,” the Instagram post read, complete with an introductory video of Carragher practicing her archery skills for the show.“I’m really excited to play Katniss. I relate to her quite a lot,” Carragher says in the video. “I think she’s very fearless, but then she’s also got that nurturing quality about her. Everyone needs to come and watch The Hunger Games: On Stage because it’s going to be nothing like you’ve ever seen.” Set in a dystopian future where food shortages run rampant, The Hunger Games follows a group of children and teenagers forced to compete in a deadly televised competition orchestrated by their totalitarian government.Initially adapted into four critically well-received films starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson, The Hunger Games will soon make its theatrical debut at London's Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre, with performances set to begin on October 20 of this year. “We searched far and wide, and comprehensively, for our Katniss,” the show's director, Matthew Dunster, said of Carragher's casting. “It is not easy to step into Suzanne Collins’ amazing creation and only one actor combined Katniss’ charisma and combat skills — her quiet, tough determination and her brilliant creativity, athleticism and humor. We’ve found our Katniss in Mia Carragher, and we can’t wait for audiences to see her.”
