On Monday, the deranged man pleaded guilty to stalking and harassment in an Indianapolis, Indiana courtroom, months after he was first arrested.
Lewis launched an online diatribe against the star player on December 16 and continually posted disturbing messages about how he was going to find her despite being warned to stop.
In January, he drove from Denton, Texas, to Indianapolis to be closer to the player, and wrote that he had been “driving around her house 3x a day,” court documents say.
At one point, federal investigators tracked him down at a hotel room in the city and told him not to post anything threatening, but he wouldn’t quit.
They finally arrested Lewis after Clark said his eerie behavior made her fearful to be in public, and that she was forced to change her schedule.
In Monday’s hearing, Lewis tried to downplay the crimes while the judge continually called him out for distracting courtroom antics.
At the beginning of the hearing, he was caught chewing on a pair of headphones that he brought into the courtroom, and the judge started quizzing him about whether he had taken any drugs.
Lewis went on to call the incident a “failure to communicate” and said it was like a “game of telephone” that was blown out of proportion by the media.
He stressed that he wanted what was best for Clark and said, “I want her to be safe.”
In one disturbing remark, he said, “I would lay down in the Autobahn to save her,” appearing to reference a German highway with no speed limit.
He claimed that his 800 posts were made out of security concerns for the player, and continued to make his case until the judge swiftly called him out.
She warned that if he kept defending himself in the statement, he would talk his way out of the plea deal, which saw a charge for threatening sexual battery dropped.
“You have to understand that as part of a plea deal, you are admitting responsibility,” said the judge.

“Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears announced today that Michael Lewis, a Texas resident, pleaded guilty and was sentenced for his actions including sending numerous threats and sexually explicit messages to Caitlin Clark via his social media accounts from December 12, 2024 – January 11, 2025.
“Today in court, Lewis pleaded guilty to Stalking (Level 6 Felony) and Harassment (Class B Misdemeanor). Pursuant to the agreement, Lewis will serve two and a half years in the Indiana Department of Correction, the maximum penalty for a Level 6 Felony. The agreement secured a no contact order for the victim and court ordered protections for various locations in Indianapolis. It also bars the defendant from receiving alternative misdemeanor sentencing.
“During the investigation, it was discovered that Lewis’ recent messages came from IP addresses in Indianapolis and that he was staying at a hotel in the 100 block of Market Street. When visited by officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) on Jan. 8, concerning these Lewis acknowledged it was ‘an imaginary relationship.’ Despite the encounter with law enforcement the messages continued. Lewis was arrested and charged on Jan. 12 in Indianapolis.
“’This resolution ensures that the defendant is held accountable for his threatening actions, the fear he instilled, and the disruption he caused.,” said Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears.
“‘He will now spend the next two and a half years in the Department of Correction and the victim will be able to have peace of mind while focusing on what matters to her.'”
Lewis went on to say that the world is “headed for troubled times” and started prophesying about a grim future.
He said that he was going to focus on his Christian faith and stay away from the internet and watching sports.
The judge said that she would recommend Lewis get mental health treatment while he is in jail and urged him to stay offline.
“I think that you cannot help yourself until you get help,” she said.
Lewis will serve two and a half years in the Indiana Department of Corrections and has agreed to a no-contact order with Clark.
In a statement, Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears said, “This resolution ensures that the defendant is held accountable for his threatening actions, the fear he instilled, and the disruption he caused.
“He will now spend the next two and a half years in the Department of Correction and the victim will be able to have peace of mind while focusing on what matters to her.”
