In 2008, She Showed Up On A Stranger’s Doorstep Covered In Cuts Without Clothes On And Claiming Someone Was Out To Get Her Before She Mysteriously Vanished
In 2008, 23-year-old Christine Lindsey Walters was a college student known for her friendly, adventurous energy.
She’d studied botany at the University of Wisconsin while teaching yoga and pilates and working at an organic farm on the side. She also lived with her family at their home in Deerfield until she decided to make a major life move in the summer of 2008.
During a school break, Christine visited Portland, Oregon, to visit some friends. She only intended to stay for a total of three weeks, as evidenced by the round-trip plane ticket she purchased beforehand.
Yet, by the end of her trip, she’d fallen in love with the West Coast and told her parents that she wanted to stay longer – ultimately delaying her return to school.
Christine wound up in Eureka, California, which is situated in Humboldt County and located right on the Pacific coast.
Despite Humboldt County’s reputation for being dangerous – having the second-highest murder rate within the state – Christine’s move seemed to go smoothly at first. She made sure to check in with her family, and no one was concerned about her well-being.
That was until Christine’s communication became more infrequent and sporadic, which was uncharacteristic of her. Additionally, she began asking for money from her parents.
Then, in the fall of 2008, everything changed on November 12, when Christine showed up on a stranger’s doorstep in Arcata. It was the morning, but she had no clothes on, and her body was covered in cuts that looked as though they’d been made by briar bushes. Her feet were also bloodied.
Christine was reportedly described as cold, hungry, and thirsty. She also appeared confused and disoriented.

The couple who lived in the Arcata home immediately contacted the police, who picked up Christine and transported her to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Eureka. She did not say much to investigators except that she’d “walked a long way” and that someone was running after her in the woods – trying to get her.
However, authorities performed a drug test, which came back negative, and she was subsequently discharged from the hospital the same day. At that point, police brought her to the Red Lion Inn, located at 1929 4th Street, and she contacted her parents.
Still, Christine did not detail exactly what had happened to her. Rather, they just discussed how she could get back home to Deerfield, Wisconsin.
It was then that she claimed to have lost all of her personal identification. This was a major problem, as Christine couldn’t board a flight back home without having either a driver’s license or passport.
So, on November 14, her mother faxed some of Christine’s personal documents – including her license and social security card – to a local copy center. She arrived at the establishment around 3:30 p.m., wearing her pajamas, to pick up the identification. That way, she could secure a flight home.
In addition to the documents, Christine’s father also reportedly wired $1,000 to her bank account to cover the air travel costs.
Yet, this money was never withdrawn.
After visiting the copy center, Christine reportedly asked how to get to the local DMV – located about one mile away – before walking away. This marked the last time anyone saw her, and she has been missing ever since.
According to employees who were working at the copy center that day, Christine’s demeanor seemed fearful and anxious. She was also only wearing slippers.
Her parents officially reported her missing on November 17, 2008, after she never contacted them again or boarded a flight home. Later, her personal belongings – including money and the identification she’d claimed to have lost – were found inside a backpack at the Green Life Evolutions Center, a local business.
The owner of the business claimed that Christine would often leave her backpack behind when she went on walks in the Arcata Community Forest. As for why her supposedly lost identification was inside the backpack, that remains unknown.
Following Christine’s strange disappearance, her parents hired private investigators to look into her case, and they discovered that shortly before she ended up in the hospital, Christine had participated in a tea cleansing ceremony.
The ceremony occurred on November 7, 2008, and involved people consuming ayahuasca – an illegal, hallucinogenic substance brewed from a South American vine. It contains dimethyltryptamine, which is a controlled substance in the United States.
Individuals who have consumed ayahuasca have reported having “spiritual awakenings.” But, side effects may include confusion, paranoia, hallucinations, nausea, vomiting, tremors, and more.
Christine reportedly stayed in the Arcata area for multiple days after the tea ceremony before leaving, and it remains to be seen whether the ceremony was tied to her disappearance.
This November will mark 16 years since Christine vanished, and her family continues searching for answers. They have created a Facebook page entitled Help Find Christine Lindsey Walters to continue spreading awareness of her case.
“I shall never see her beautiful face again, never hear contagious sweet laughter, hold her in my arms, or feel her love. I can’t fathom what has happened to my daughter. I only know the most excruciating pain of loss a parent can possibly feel, and I’m totally at a loss,” Christine’s mother, Anita, wrote in one Facebook post.
“I’m so very sorry, Christine, she should be here with us!!! I can only hope she isn’t suffering. Be at peace, my darling daughter, and forgive me for not protecting you from evil in this world.”
At the time she vanished, Christine was five foot one, weighed 125 pounds, and had red hair and green eyes.
She may go by names such as “Airy Meadow,” “Star,” “Meadow,” or “Airystar.” She has a large Iris tattoo, inked in the colors green and purple, at the back of her neck, as well as a tiny, black butterfly tattoo on her left hip.
Christine also had numerous ear piercings and a nose ring and did not wear makeup.
