Top 100 LB Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng talks school visit from staff, upcoming OV
New Michigan linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale the road hard during the spring evaluation period last month.
The pair saw a handful of key 2025 linebacker targets, including Top 100 Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy prospect Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng.
“They showed me love,” Owusu-Boateng said. “They said they can’t wait to get me back to campus. Coach Wink expressed how much he wants me to be a part of that team. He knows how good of a linebacker I can be. Knowing he’s coached Ray Lewis and sees me as a player like that, it’s real love. A big thing for me is having a coach with experience that’s going to develop you. I think greatly of him.”
Martindale is obviously making a huge impression on Owusu-Boateng.
However, Owusu-Boateng’s longstanding relationship with Jean-Mary is a big reason why Michigan is now a top contender in this recruitment.
“We’ve been talking since he was at Tennessee, so when he got to Michigan, it was the same thing,” Owusu-Boateng said. “Our relationship stayed the same. When he went to Michigan, it made me more interested in Michigan. I really like him as a coach, and he thinks I can be a three-down linebacker.”
Owusu-Boateng made his first visit to Michigan this spring and will return for an OV on June 21.
So what does he want to see this time around?
“Just to go up and confirm everything I felt the first time,” Owusu-Boateng said. “Building those relationships with Coach BJ, Coach Wink and Coach (Sherrone) Moore. Also, meeting with the strength and conditioning coach (Justin Tress). Just knowing how they are going to develop me and life after football.”
Owusu-Boateng, who is originally from Virginia, has no set decision timeline, but he does know what he’s looking for in his future school.
“I want my parents to feel comfortable,” Owusu-Boateng said. “I want them to trust the coaches. I want to know that I’m going to get developed. I want to have an opportunity to come in and compete and play early.”
Owusu-Boateng made an official visit to USC last weekend. He will see Notre Dame this weekend before heading to Ohio State and ending his official visit slate with Michigan.
At 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, Owusu-Boateng is ranked as the No. 5 linebacker and No. 74 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 10 overall recruit in the state of Florida this cycle.
