Tesla Holds Grand Opening Of 1st Bucks Co. Store
WARMINSTER TOWNSHIP, PA —The opening of Tesla's first new store in Bucks County will provide an economic spark while also making it easier for vehicle owners to get service in the Philadelphia region, community leaders said.Tesla held its grand opening Thursday at its new location on 700 York Rd. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by State Rep. Brian Munroe and members of the Delaware Valley Tesla Owners Association."With this ribbon cutting of the new Tesla dealership, we celebrate and welcome a new partner in our economic development," Munroe said. "I say partner because an empty storefront cannot partner with my fellow elected officials, other business owners, and nonprofits in improving the lives in our district."Syd Weinstein, vice president of the Delaware Valley Tesla Owners Association, said that having a Tesla service center in Warminster is important for vehicle owners who live around the Philly region."It's much more important than a dealership," Weinstein said. "Some people would have to drive an hour to get to the closest Tesla service center or two hours if they live in the Lehigh Valley. This center covers eastern Pennsylvania, the first on the northern side of Philadelphia."The business is the largest Tesla in Pennsylvania. Tesla has stores in King of Prussia, Devon, West Chester, and Cherry Hill and Lawrence in New Jersey.Weinstein said that the Tesla location in King of Prussia is a display center and not a service center. He said that the Warminster Tesla can not be a vehicle delivery center since only five are allowed in Pennsylvania. But he said the company delivers the vehicles to someone's home anyways if they are purchased online.Tesla opened in February at the old Pathmark property after a year of construction. The project's cost was estimated between $6-8 million. The 56,000-square-foot building at the former Pathmark property sits on nine acres across the street from Archbishop Wood High School and near Street Road. It had been considered by Lidl for another grocery store. Its operating hours would be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and closed Sunday.Tesla, the car company led by CEO Elon Musk, models itself on clean energy and designs and manufactures electric vehicles, battery energy storage from home to grid-scale, solar panels, and solar roof tiles. The Tesla was expected to add 30-40 local jobs. There is a service area with space for two rows of parking, an alignment center, a storage area for tires, windshield wipers, fluids, and other auto supplies. The front features a waiting area and showroom featuring two Tesla vehicles people can examine, a car wash area, and two loading areas for deliveries.Service and repairs would happen in the building by appointment only. The repair area would have 18 lifts. Vehicles would be purchased online with appointments made for pickup.Meanwhile, the property is up for sale. The property was put on the market last month, according to the real estate broker LoopNet. It is listed for $18.9 million.Investment highlights include a brand-new, 12-year lease, options to extend, new construction, annual 2 percent rental increases, and an established and well-known tenant, the listing said. While Tesla will be a part of the community for some years, Munroe urged residents to get involved in their communities and become partners."Get to know your elected officials, parks and recreation, sports teams, charities, etc." he said. "Accept the invitation to the spaghetti dinner. Put your name on the back of the local Little League team. Buy some rubber duckies. Together, as partners, you can be the cornerstone of our economic development."(State Rep. Brian Munroe) State Rep.
