Firefighters are currently battling a two-alarm blaze at the historic First Baptist Dallas church, located in the 500 block of Ervay Street in Downtown Dallas. The fire was reported just after 6 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024. Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) crews promptly rushed to the scene in response.The blaze broke out in the church’s historic sanctuary, which dates back to 1890. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke pouring from the building. A church spokesperson revealed that the sanctuary is currently surrounded by thick, black smoke.The severity of the fire prompted the issuance of a second alarm at 6:20 p.m. The streets around the church, including the intersection of San Jacinto and North Ervay, have been closed.
