4-star RB James Simon is ‘getting close’ to a decision
Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist Academy running back James Simon picked up his first offer from Grambling State his freshman year. Early in his sophomore year, TCU offered and his recruitment took off. Over 30 schools have offered the No. 151 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and he may not be far from committing to one.
“I am definitely getting close to making a decision,” Simon told On3. “I have been talking with my family about it, I have been thinking about it and I think a decision is coming soon.
“Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame, Texas and Texas A&M are still on my list. Those are the schools I will be committing between when I make my decision. All five schools have pushed for me, I have relationships with coaches at each school and those five schools have things I am looking for.”
Simon is not there just yet. He is still having deep discussions with his family about schools and decision timeline, but he knows what he is looking for.
“Over time, I have built connections and learned the different plans for me, and after the spring tour I took, I have started to think I could be close to making my decision.
“When I make the final decision on a school, the coaches being able to take care me, develop me as a player and a person and make me the best I can be is what will help me pick the school.
LSU last had Simon campus in March. He saw a spring practice in Baton Rouge. He visited Notre Dame and Texas A&M in March as well. The last time he was in Tuscaloosa and Austin was in April.
Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame, Texas, Texas A&M
Alabama: “Alabama’s history stands out to me. My relationship with them is big too. Coach Robert Gillespie has been there for a while, so we have built a strong connection.”
LSU: “It is the home feeling I get when I am there that stands out about LSU. They have treated me like I am part of the team already and that has always been big. It is close to home too, and I know a lot of the coaches well.”
Notre Dame: “I like Coach Deland McCullough a lot and we have a great relationship. I feel the same about Coach Marcus Freeman. Those two set the standard, both have made me feel wanted and they have shown me that they feel I can help the team.”
Texas: “I like the relationships I have built with Coach Tashard Choice and Coach Sark (Steve Sarkisian). It is more than football with them and they talk to me about life. They are good guys, I like how they coach and we have good relationships.”
Texas A&M: “I like what the new staff is doing with the team and the program. They are building something big there for the program and I like how they have been recruiting me.”
