Dowell Loggains breaks down how two-minute warning impacts college football
The new two-minute timeout in college football will be a big adjustment for a lot of teams and coaches. South Carolina offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains isn’t one of them.
Loggains has previously been an offensive coordinator in the NFL and is accustomed to two-minute warnings. He recently spoke about how this college football season will be different with the two-minute timeout.

“Well, there’s two things that you have to consider with it. Obviously it stops the clock,” Loggains said. “College is always a little bit different because first downs stop the clock, as well. But it definitely does. There’s situations you handle, pre two-minute, post two-minute that will be a little bit differently.”
Dowell Loggains added that timeouts are incredibly valuable and having an extra one should benefit the offense.

“Obviously it will give you another built in timeout. Timeouts still have a lot of value in college football. In pro football they’re like gold,” Loggains said. “And you watch most of these games that are one-score games in college and pro football, and most of the time the team with two or three timeouts left in the end has a huge advantage over the other team. So timeouts are important. This is just adding another one.”
There are some added strategies that will come into play with the two-minute warning. However, Loggains declined to get into details and share what exactly those are.
Instead, he will keep everyone guessing as the season plays out.
“There are strategies before and after two-minute that come into play here that I don’t wanna talk about in too much detail,” Loggains said. “But yes, it is significantly different.”
LaNorris Sellers reacts to being named South Carolina starting quarterback
Leading the way for Dowell Loggains offense this season will be redshirt freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers.
Ahead of the season, Sellers shared his reaction to being named the starter at South Carolina. As he explained, Sellers hasn’t had an attitude shift in practice but he is definitely excited for the opportunity.
“I still go through practice the same way I was,” LaNorris Sellers said. “Practice, all of that, has stayed the same for me, honestly…I’m very excited. You dream about things like this from [being] a kid to now. It’s finally come true. So, I just got to go out there and play.”
A native of Florence, South Carolina, LaNorris Sellers came to the Gamecocks as a four-star recruit in the Class of 2023, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the 21st-ranked quarterback and the 353rd-ranked player overall that cycle.
Sellers played in three games last season, retaining his redshirt in the process. In that limited playing time, he completed four of four passes for 86 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown. This past spring, he was named Joe Morrison Offensive Player of the Spring.
