Shoppers beg Cadbury to bring back 2005 recipe for iconic bar – as they moan current one ‘tastes like candle wax’
THEY delighted fans over the weekend by announcing the return of the Mint Crisp bar.
But now Cadbury have been hit by pleas from devotees to return to the 2005 recipe for their iconic Dairy Milk chocolate.
One chocolate fan took to Reddit to compare the Dairy Milk bar from 2005 and 2024reddit

They also compared the ingredients – the 2005 bar is top and the 2024 one bottomreddit
Nutritionally there isn’t much in it – with 525 calories per 100g in the 2005 one, and 534 in the 2024 onereddit
The requests came after one chocoholic took to Reddit to share comparison pictures of a bar of Dairy Milk from 2024, and from 2005.
They had kept the promotional box from 2005, which contained the bar as it was at the time, and one wrapped in the same wrapper that it would have had 100 years before – in 1905.
“I believe Cadburys did a promotion recently where they brought back the old designs, it seems like they did a similar thing back in 2005,” the person wrote alongside pictures of the two bars.
“I wish I bought the modern version of the 2005 bar to compare but I couldn’t see it anymore in the shop
“I have no nostalgic feeling towards the 2005 bar as I was only 5 years old but i really do like it !!
“Did it taste nicer back then?”
They also shared pictures showing the ingredients list for both bars, with one of the differences seemingly being that “milk” is now listed as “milk**” on modern bars, with an note explaining: “The equivalent of 426ml of fresh liquid milk in every 227g of milk chocolate”.
The order of ingredients is slightly different too, with “cocoa mass” coming before “cocoa butter” on the older bar, but the other way round on the newer one.
And people were quick to jump on the comments to weigh in, with many agreeing that the classic milk chocolate tasted better a decade ago.
“I miss old Cadbury chocolate,” one sighed.
“Tastes s**t now and the texture is so weird and soft like those bad American chocolates that contain so little chocolate aren’t even allowed to be called chocolate in most countries.”
“Palm oil ,sugary, chocolate ‘flavoured’ candle wax,” another raged.
“The old school CDM was proper good,” a third concurred.
“The new stuff is absolutely sh**e, I never buy the stuff.”
“Awful stuff these days,” someone else commented.
“It was really shortsighted by Mondelez (the owner of Cadbury). To save a bit on ingredients they left a giant hole in the market for ‘decent but not fancy’ chocolate that Tony’s Chocolonely has rapidly filled,” another pointed out.
The return of Cadbury's Mint Crisp
A RARE Cadbury's chocolate bar has made a return just in time for Christmas much to the delight of shoppers.
The confectionery giant has brought back its Dairy Milk Mint Crisp bar for shoppers to enjoy as the nights draw in.
The bar features Cadbury’s classic milk chocolate and is filled with crispy mint pieces.
The Winter Mint Crisp bar has already landed on shelves, with Tesco charging £4.50 for a 360g bar, reduced to £4 if you have a Clubcard.
“Not that I’m complaining – Tony’s Chocolonely is far more ethical.”
However, someone else argued: “I don’t have anything against Tony’s, but based on people’s reviews I expected something amazing.
“But it tasted like an average chocolate bar to me.
“I also struggled with the ‘quirky’ chunk pattern and found that it took away from my enjoyment eating it.”
As another said of the ‘new’ Dairy Milk: “It’s still good but it’s nowhere near as good as it used to be and the chunks are much much smaller.”
But others insisted they were still huge fans of the plain chocolate bar.
“I might be in the minority here, but I actually like the taste of Cadbury’s still,” one wrote.
“Maybe it’s a nostalgia thing or something..”
“I must be the only person on the planet that still likes Dairy Milk,” another pointed out.
As a third insisted: “It tastes fine to me”.
