Sad Reminder Overshadows Stephen Curry’s Contract Extension as Warriors Star Joins Elite NBA List
Warriors stans can stop biting their nails or scratching out their hair over Stephen Curry’s commitment to the organization. The Chef has pledged is loyalty, showing shades of another Tim Duncan. According to The Athletic, Curry has reportedly signed a one-year $62.6 million extension with the Bay area franchise.
The Baby Face Assassin still had two years left on his previous contract extension. However, the Warriors didn’t want to take any chance. Stephen Curry being their franchise player, was awarded the most lucrative extension in NBA history. With his newest contract, he has also officially surpassed the $500 million mark in career earnings. This is largely attributed to his $178 million guaranteed money after prolonging his Bay area stay.
Curry passes $500M+ in career earnings on the court, joining LeBron James and Kevin Durant.
Because of the Over 38 rule, the 1 year extension is the maximum that Golden State could offer. https://t.co/oOJYCxlzil

He joins a prestigious and short list of players to have done so. It just so happens to be his most decorated Olympic teammates LeBron James and Kevin Durant. The newest contract keeps him with the Warriors until the 2026-27 season. However, moving forward, Stephen Curry will embark on an experience he hasn’t had before.
The Warriors are a fully refurbished team. Buddy Hield will be Curry’s newest shooting alliance while promising talents like Brandon Podziemski and Jonathan Kuminga will prepare to flatter with heightened responsibility. Of course, his pre-dynasty forward Draymond Green remains intact.
Just like the two greats on the list, Curry’s production remains mind-boggling at the age of 36. In what was a turbulent season for the Warriors, Curry walked home with his first Clutch Player of The Year award. He remains the most hostile threat from beyond the arc, making 357 threes last season, 73 more than the next best Luka Doncic.
But there is a sad outline of Curry stretching his loyalty toward the Warriors.
Despite fighting, Stephen Curry is without a ‘Splash Brother’
The most saddening part of the extension goes back to months back. Klay Thompson, a 13-year serviceman for the franchise decided to switch allegiance and join the Dallas Mavericks. The move was necessary from Thompson’s perspective. His utility had begun to fade and he required a fresh start as he reiterated during his press conference.
Stephen Curry has spoken about the sorrow he feels with Thompson leaving. In the conversation the two best friends had in the past, Thompson had requested Curry to not pressure the front office to extend him. Despite that, the 36-year-old went off course to speak to Joe Lacob.
Unfortunately, the decision never resided in the hands of the front office. As Lacob said, “After he had called me and told me he had made the decision to move on, this was before free agency, he called me and was very nice about it and explained he didn’t like making the call but he said ‘I feel I just have to do this,”
So as blissful as the news is, for Curry, it’s bittersweet.
