This Summer, We’re Leaving Our Insecurities At Home And Embracing Swimsuit Season With Confidence
Summertime is here, which means many of us are breaking out our swimsuits to hit the beach or local pool and jump into some water.
Swimming has always been one of my most favorite parts of summertime. As a little girl, I was lucky enough to grow up near the beach and our public pool, so I got plenty of swim time. I have fond memories of playing “mermaids” and doing handstands in the water with my friends.
While I still have a lot of fun with my friends in the water, since I was a teenager, something started getting in the way of that fun occasionally.
When I was around 15, I started getting paranoid about how I looked in my bathing suits.
But when I got older, teenage hormones and anxiety kicked in, and my body didn’t look the same. I then started feeling very insecure about how I looked in my suits.
It didn’t help that I was growing up looking at pictures of gorgeous models and influencers showing off their seemingly perfect swimsuit bodies on social media.
How did I go from a little girl who only cared about splashing around and pretending to be a mermaid in her swimsuit to a young woman who dreaded putting one on?
Now that I’m in my 20s, I’ve made a lot of personal growth. While I still get insecure about my appearance occasionally, I no longer allow my insecurities to stop me from putting on a bathing suit and having some summer fun.
If you’re ready to embrace swimsuit season and stop feeling insecure, here are some tips for you.

Buy a cute bathing suit that fits you properly
Before working on our mentality regarding swimsuits, something that will help you tremendously is buying and wearing a swimsuit that you feel good in.
Swimsuits that don’t fit you well can easily make you feel uncomfortable, so take some proper measurements and get help selecting one that’s cute and fits your body comfortably.
Stop looking to influencers for inspiration
Comparison truly is the thief of joy, and if you constantly compare yourself to online influencers in their itsy bitsy bikinis, you’ll likely stay insecure. Remember that influencers and models often use editing and special posing techniques to make themselves look the way they do, and you should be more focused on embracing your natural body.
Stop overthinking
I think one of the reasons I was most insecure about wearing a bathing suit as a teen was because I thought every single person at the pool or beach would analyze my appearance and judge me.
However, before stepping out in your suit, remember that not all eyes are on you. The majority of people at the beach and pool are simply trying to mind their own business and have fun, not judge you in your suit. So don’t worry about it!
Practice self-love
The more we keep saying bad things about ourselves and how we look in a bathing suit, the easier we’ll start believing them. This summer, do your best to stop saying negative things about yourself and your body. Instead, practice positive affirmations and tell yourself that you are beautiful, that your body is beautiful.
I know that ‘swimsuit season’ can be intimidating, but instead of focusing so much on how your body looks, focus more on the fun of the season. Channel your inner child, focus more on play and adventure, and take good care of yourself.
