The favourites
England – 3/1 with William Hill
It looks as though the bookies consider this competition fairly open with no less than FIVE nations available at single-figure prices, with Gareth Southgate’s England the leading candidates at 3/1 with William Hill.
The Three Lions have been knocking on the door for that first men’s major trophy since 1966, and there’s no shortage of talent within their ranks including the likes of Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane and Phil Foden.
There’s no doubting that England will be potent in attack with so many creative players and ruthless finishers at their disposal, but many remain unconvinced by their defensive options.
France – 7/2 with William Hill
Only France can rival England in terms of the number of quality individuals within their ranks, and many believe they have the edge on England courtesy of superstar talents like Kylian Mbappe.
Not only do they possess an embarrassment of riches, but they are also led by a manager in Didier Deschamps (the third longest-serving manager of a European nation) who won the World Cup in 2018, and reached the final in Qatar in 2022.
Les Bleus scored 29 goals, conceded three and won all but one of their eight games during qualification.

Next in line
Germany – 5/1 with William Hill
Hosts Germany are back on an upward trajectory under Julian Nagelsmann, and that’s perhaps why bookies have them as 5/1 third-favourites.
The national side were firmly in the doldrums following the 2022 Qatar World Cup, which was the second World Cup in a row that Germany have failed to get out of their group. It had not happened in 16 previous tournaments before then.
But successive wins against France and the Netherlands in this year’s March international break has lifted spirits, while their attacking trio of Kai Havertz, Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz provide plenty of reasons to be cheerful.
Again, like England, their weakness appears to be in defence while Nagelsmann was bold in overlooking the likes of Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry and Mats Hummels.

Spain – 8/1 with William Hill
Spain arrive with a genuine chance of adding to their list of Euros successes achieved in 1964, 2008 and 2012.
Manager Luis de la Fuente’s side might not have the likes of Andres Iniesta and Xavi pulling the strings these days, but they still ranked top of UEFA’s official stats for possession and passing accuracy during Euro 2024 qualifying.
They also won last summer’s four-team Nations League finals. The dream is packed full of young and exciting talents, although there are questions to be asked of the defence while Alvaro Morata and Joselu remain their only recognised strikers.
Portugal – 8/1 with William Hill
Overpriced? They just might be.
The 2016 European champions have Roberto Martinez at the helm for the upcoming competition. He’s let the handbrake off and given licence for his array of attacking talents to thrive.
Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Jota, Raphael Leao and Joao Felix are just a few of the superstar names in their ranks, which are still spearheaded by Cristiano Ronaldo.
They will also fancy their chances of gliding through the group stages with Turkey, Czech Republic and first-time qualifiers Georgia in Group F.
And the rest
William Hill have holders Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands all locked together at 16/1, with all three having some areas of concern.
Italy manager Luciano Spalletti hasn’t been in the job for very long and is still trying to imprint his style on the squad. It’s not helped that he’s used four different strikers during his nine-game tenure, while the defence has barely played together.
Still competitive, although it seems that Belgium’s Golden Generation has passed them by without a huge amount of tangible success. Romelu Lukaku (31) is still scoring but is getting on, as is 32-year-old Kevin De Bruyne.
Axel Witsel, Jan Vertonghen, Thomas Meunier and Yannick Carrasco remain in the squad, but there has been a healthy injection of youth with Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku and Amadou Onana.
Ronald Koeman’s Holland simply aren’t the force of old but do still posses the likes of Liverpool’s Van Dijk and Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.
They are blessed with several tremendous defensive options but they remain light on top-level attacking options with free agent Memphis Depay, who scored just nine goals last season, leading the line.
