“No Ryan, He’d never do it”: Emily Blunt Feels Betrayed After Ryan Gosling Says Yes to Possibly Making His MCU Debut as Ghost Rider
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is something Ryan Gosling would love to be a part of, even though he has not starred in any superhero flicks yet. Not only that, but he already knows the character he would most like to play.
The 43-year-old star of Barbie and The Fall Guy recently expressed his staunch interest in playing Johnny Blaze in a future Ghost Rider project, a role played by Nicolas Cage in MCU flicks. Having said that, during a chat with Happy Sad Confused’s Josh Horowitz, Gosling dropped the bombshell that he would be more than willing to don the fiery chains of the iconic anti-hero.

But during the interview, Emily Blunt was so appalled and disappointed by her co-star’s abrupt change of heart regarding doing a superhero flick. But note that, as of right now, there is still no concrete word on Marvel Studios’ intentions to resurrect the Spirit of Vengeance in theaters.

Gosling expressed this burning desire during a recent revelatory discussion with Josh Horowitz of the Happy Sad Confused podcast—a “magical moment” that had previously piqued the interest of Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.
The actor responded as follows when Horowitz questioned him about receiving Feige’s approval:
I told Josh I would like to play Ghost Rider. He found Kevin Feige, corners him, does an interview with him. When he says, ‘I would like this,’ all the lights go off’.

Gosling answered in a guarded manner, “I do not know”, when asked if there had been any significant progress made in that area. Meanwhile, sitting right next to Gosling, Emily Blunt, 41, could hardly contain her shock and disappointment at her The Fall Guy co-star’s sudden change of heart.
Calling him a “turncoat”, she couldn’t believe that he would be willing to star in a superhero film after they both previously shared a mutual disdain for the genre. She asked Gosling:
Do you remember, Josh, when you asked me about Ryan being in a superhero and I said ‘no, Ryan, he would never do it. I thought we wore it as a badge of honor that we weren’t in superhero movies.
Gosling was reportedly considered for a number of superhero films in the past, including Doctor Strange and Suicide Squad.

During Gosling’s 2022 Happy Sad Confused podcast interview with Horowitz, they talked about the speculation that he was a contender to play Nova in the MCU. At the time, although the Barbie star refuted the rumors about Nova, he acknowledged his desire to portray Ghost Rider in the MCU.
Emily Blunt’s Perspective: Why She Passed on Playing Black Widow?
Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow, an assassin spy turned heroic Avengers, is by now intimately associated with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Following her debut in Iron Man 2, she made several cameos in team-up projects throughout the franchise until her posthumous solo film, Black Widow.

While rumors initially circulated about Emily Blunt’s rejection of the role, many knew for a long time that she was close to accepting it, which fueled widespread conjecture. Previously, on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Oppenheimer actress said, “Come on, the best girl got it”, referring to Johansson’s work, which she described as “amazing”.
In a 2019 interview with The Howard Stern Show, Blunt shared her reasoning for turning down the Marvel role, saying:
It was a bit of a heartbreaker for me because I take such pride in the decisions that I make, and they mean so much to me, the films that I do, so that was tough. They [Fox] kind of have a bit of a hold over you. There were other movies that I would want to do.
In the ensuing years, Johansson would reprise her superhero role in films that included Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, The Avengers, and Avengers: Infinity War.
As for Ryan Gosling, he’s ready to embrace the challenge of portraying Ghost Rider and bringing the character to life on the big screen.
Ghost Rider is streaming on FuboTV.
