Trump, Bahrain crown prince give remarks from White House

by The Hill Staff
President Trump will welcome Bahrain’s Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa to the White House Wednesday morning, where the prime minister is expected to announce $17 billion worth of investment in the U.S.
The proposal comes as the Trump administration began sending out tariff letters earlier this month outlining new rates on trading partners set to go into effect on Aug. 1, after the 90-day pause and extension on “reciprocal” tariffs lapses. Though, the president has left the door open to more trade deals ahead of the deadline.
During Trump’s “Liberation Day” rollout earlier this year, Bahrain was hit with a 10 percent tariff — the baseline rate.
Al Khalif on Tuesday met with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, according to his office. Officials also shared a photo of the two shaking hands on social media.
The event is scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m. EDT.
