Earning an Ohio State offer ‘means a lot’ to in-state CB Jakob Weatherspoon
COLUMBUS – Earning an offer from Ohio State is not easy to do. It is especially difficult for in-state prospects to do.
That’s why it meant so much to four-star Avon (Ohio) cornerback Jakob Weatherspoon when cornerbacks coach Tim Walton told him that he earned an offer after camp on Wednesday.
“It means a lot, especially with Ohio being my home state and everything. [I] really worked to get this offer,” Weatherspoon told Lettermen Row. “They’re not just gonna hand it out to you, you have to come to camp and get the work. I’m just glad I did what I did today.”
Weatherspoon, the No. 174 overall prospect in the 2026 On300, grew up watching Ohio State and liked the consistency of the program, which is another reason why he was happy to earn an offer.
“I mean, growing up that’s all I really watched because the whole family is always Ohio State so I’m just glad I got it. I think they have no flaws to be honest. I feel great about them.”
Tim Walton and safeties coach Matt Guerrieri both worked Weatherspoon out at camp and he likes the relationship that he is building with both of them.
“I think every time I come here, it gets better. Every single time. It’s always something new to say. And they’ll never change it. They are who they are. They’ll never tell you something wrong or tell you a lie, they’ll just tell you what it is.”
Weatherspoon also believes getting coached by both Walton and Guerrieri will only improve their relationship.
“It felt good to build a better relationship with him, see how they coach, see how I can take it and I felt like it went both ways. We’re pretty good.”
The 5-foot-11 and 175-pound Weatherspoon is the third in-state cornerback prospect that Ohio State has offered. He joins four-star Akron (Ohio) Archbishop Hoban cornerback Elbert Hill and four-star Toledo (Ohio) Central Catholic cornerback Victor Singleton, who also earned his offer on Wednesday, on that short list.
