Is rushing Chad Gable back to RAW a bad idea for WWE and the Wyatt Sick6?
On the fallout edition of Monday Night RAW after Clash at the Castle, Chad Gable was seemingly… unalived by Uncle Howdy and the Wyatt Sick6 with what many fans assumed was a bullet wound to the head.
Fans mourned the former leader of Alpha Academy, joked about Otis getting away with a serious crime, and openly wondered what this new faction was capible of if they could take out one of the better performers in the promotion like it was nothing.
… and yet, a week later, Gable has been cleared to wrestle in a qualifying match for the men’s Money in the Bank Ladder match despite being replaced in the bout by Iljja Dragunov, who would have been incredibly interesting to see in the ring with “Big” Bronson Reed and Braun Strowman.
But why? If the Wyatt Sick6 are so horrible and scary, why is Gable able to get cleared a week later for one of the more challenging matches one could imagine against a pair of certified hosses? Wouldn’t it make more sense to have Gable off of television for a few weeks to really play up his injury and illness, with the faction knocking out another performer like, say, Cedric Alexander the next week to really play up how dangerous the group really is? If so, Gable could return to WWE a few weeks later to help someone else in need, and magically, he becomes a certified babyface fighting against a near-insurmountable foe as the fans cheer him on.
Does WWE have a plan for Gable? Yes, they 100 percent are bringing him up for a reason and it certainly isn’t to pretend like nothing happened and just move on, with the Wyatt Sick6 likely set to attack the “Master” once more. But if they instead play the attack off like “something weird” a la Michael Cole and Pat McAfee did with the factions’ QR codes over the past few months? Well, that would be a darn shame, as it would make the faction look weaker, Gable look like a fool, and would call this entire tribute to Bray Wyatt into question long-term.

Corey Graves is excited to see Chad Gable shine in WWE.
While Chad Gable may not be long for the WWE Universe, as even if he returns to RAW this week, he could be taken out by Uncle Howdy and the Wyatt Sick6 before the end of the three-hour show, that doesn’t mean Paul “Triple H” Levesque and company are looking to write him off of television or job him out to kill his momentum. No, if anything, his inclusion in the storyline is probably a positive, as it means Creative believes in him enough to handle such an important storyline as the spooky faction’s foil.
Discussing Gable’s progress on Over The Top with Peter Rosenberg, Corey Graves celebrated the “Master” for his incredible efforts, letting fans know that he’s proud to see the Olympian finally get his flowers after spending years in a gimmick that didn’t perfectly fit his authentic self.
“I think you’re going to see more frequently, in the next year-18 months or so, you’re going to see a lot of superstars who came up through the system, through NXT, maybe the Black & Gold NXT days or the earlier days of NXT, who came up to RAW or SmackDown and, let’s just say they weren’t looked at through the same lens as when they were succeeding in NXT,” Corey Graves explained via Fightful.
“Different set of eyes and different set of hands controlling things. You’re going to see a few more superstars become more authentic versions of themselves. Perhaps who we thought or someone up top thought they were going to be initially, or early on, and they were forced to detour for one reason or another. It happens. Frequently. Probably more common than getting to succeed at a high level as your authentic self. Rarely is your final vision where you end up. Gable is a shining example of somebody who was typecast incorrectly for many years. Now, finally, you have a different chef in the kitchen saying, ‘No, we just need to do it differently,’ and boom, here we are talking about how amazing he’s been.”
While recent fans of the WWE Universe may largely know Gable as the fun-loving leader of Alpha Academy, hanging out with Otis, Maxxine Dupri, and Akira Tozawa before turning heel in his program with Sami Zayn, it wasn’t too long ago that Shorty G was one of the more harebrained gimmicks of the Vince McMahon era. After effectively being forced to watch fans laugh at him instead of with him for years, it’s nice to see Gable finally get his flowers, as his in-ring efforts certainly deserve to be celebrated.
