How to help kids sleep on planes: Mum sick of ‘horrible’ flights launches ‘godsend’ travel solution for children of all ages

As a single woman without kids, Louisa Williams always loved travelling and visiting far-flung destinations.
But when the Tweed Heads mum had her two children, she developed a newfound nervousness about flying anywhere further than an hour or so away, due to the fact that she didn’t know how her two young kids would act on-board.
It was only when Louisa had her second child, her daughter, that she and her family began to travel further again, favouring Bali as the perfect destination for children and adults alike.

But after a “horrible” experience on a flight, where the plane was forced to turn around after an earthquake, Louisa knew she needed something that would occupy and keep her two children comfortable when flying.
“What was supposed to be a five-hour flight became a 10-hour nightmare of screaming children who were hungry and couldn’t sleep,” Louisa recalls to 7Life.
Following the holiday and the “nightmare flight”, Louisa found herself thinking.
What if there was a comfortable cushion for children and babies that could enhance their experience in economy class and help them get a bit of shut-eye while flying long-haul?
Enter her Kooshy Kloud cushion.
The $69.95 product features both soft plush materials and revolutionary ergonomic design.
It cocoons you in complete comfort within your plane seat, even cushioning the arm rest.
The versatile cushion inflates in just 15 seconds, allowing you to personalise the firmness according to your preferences.
Even better, the Kooshy Kloud weighs just 150 grams and takes up next to no space in your luggage.
“My dad was an entrepreneur and so while I had been working in HR with the Victoria Police, I always had an entrepreneurial spirit,” Louisa says.
“I was on maternity leave when I made the Kooshy Kloud. Originally it was supposed to be a side hustle, but within weeks it was selling out.”
Now, the inventive mum-of-two has an entire line of kids’ travel gadgets, including her popular foldable tray table, which stops kids from playing with the real table that is often the most unhygienic part of a plane.
She has also launched her Kooshy Bands Headphones, which are wireless soft headband headphones, designed for kids who find the regular items uncomfortable and too bulky.
Reviews for the Kooshy Kloud are glowing online.
“It’s a godsend. Even on shorter flights,” one woman writes.
“Had an excellent experience with the Kloud on a recent trip to Bali with a 5.5 year old and a two year old. Both kids were able to sit or sleep comfortably without me having to prop them up or hang on to them, which meant I landed without the tense shoulders or sore legs I usually do.”
Another adds: “Must have for baby travel. Our six month old slept for five hours of a six hour flight on the Kooshy Kloud! And no dead arms/sore shoulders for mama! I was able to inflate and deflate to the perfect amount for both of us to be comfortable. I even managed to watch a movie and have a glass of wine”.
While a third says: “This cushion is the most comfortable flight accessory I have ever come across. You can inflate it as tight or squishy as you wish which is so great and it makes sleeping much more likely”.
And Louisa can’t keep up with a rush on stock.
“We are selling out of the Kooshy Kloud every two weeks at the moment,” she says.
“It works so well. We have tested it as a family to Bali and the US, and it’s worked a treat both times.”
