Axis Studios has teamed up with animation director Pete Candeland (Gorillaz music videos and The Beatles: Rock Band video game cinematic) and screenwriters Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan (Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark, Saw series, The Collector series, Pacific Rim) on a new animated series, Gods and Monsters Chapter One: The Death of Victor Frankenstein. Inspired by the graphic novel by Gris Grimly, the project promises to break new ground for horror in animation.
The series is set against a visually fantastical European backdrop and inspired by Grimly’s punk rock re-imagining of famous monsters, presenting a new take on the manipulative relationship between Victor Frankenstein, his partner in crime Elizabeth, their famously monstrous creation, as well as other re-imagined monster horror icons.
According to Axis Studios, the show will feature cutting-edge animation coupled with Candeland’s signature cool visuals and wit, woven together with modern-day themes of the dangers of technology, materialism, alienation, and music to create atmospheric horror.
Executive producers include Jason Lust of Soluble Fish Productions (Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio), Mike Callaghan, Reuben Liber of Ranger 7 Films, and Axis Studios.
The entire team of Lust, Callaghan, Candeland and Axis Studios executive producer Andrew Pearce will be attending Annecy 2023 next week, and can be reached via the Annecy Networking website.
