Allegan County Woman Wins $500,000 Playing Michigan Lottery’s Ghostbusters Instant Game

An Allegan County woman thought she was going to have a heart attack when she won $500,000 playing the Michigan Lottery’s Ghostbusters instant game.

The lucky 64-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought her winning ticket at the Marathon gas station, located at 665 Allegan Street in Plainwell.

“I have been playing the Ghostbusters game since it came out,” said the player. “When I went into the gas station to buy a ticket on my way to work, the clerk and I were talking about retirement. When she handed me the ticket, she said: ‘Well, I hope this ticket helps with saving for retirement!’

“I scratched the ticket on break later that day and I thought I won $500. My coworker said: ‘You might want to look at that prize amount again.’ When I saw it was actually $500,000, I felt like I was going to have a heart attack!”

The lucky player visited Lottery headquarters recently to claim her big prize. With her winnings, she plans to pay bills, pay off her home, and then save the remainder.

Players have won more than $12 million playing Ghostbusters, which launched in September 2023. Each $5 ticket offers players a chance to win prizes ranging from $5 up to $500,000. More than $18 million in prizes remain, including one $500,000 top prize, three $10,000 prizes, and 39 $2,500 prizes.

In 2022, Lottery players won more than $1.7 billion playing instant games.

Lottery instant games may be purchased at any of the 10,500 retailers across the state.
