By far one of the most highly anticipated Netflix shows of 2023, the live-action adaptation of One Piece finally made its premiered on Aug. 31 and immediately became a breakout sensation.
Based on the manga series of the same name, One Piece centers on the Straw Hat Pirates as they embark on an adventure to locate the “One Piece.” The treasure has the power to make captain Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) the King of the Pirates. While on their journey, the pirates encounter a lot of highs and lows on the high seas.
Backed by its adoring fandom, One Piece landed on Netflix at the tail end of summer and proved a massive success, the biggest new hit series for Netflix since maybe The Night Agent. Following suit with the fellow newbie, Netflix handed One Piece a renewal for season 2 about two weeks after its series premiere. The pirates are here to stay!
